Lujain al-Batniji

Lujain al-Batniji

Age 16

Lujain was the life of every place. She was responsible for organizing the broadcast at her school and preparing segments for the final day of the school year, known as the open day. She arranged and organized everything, even at the language institute. Creative and sociable, she loved photography and taught her friends using her personal camera. She also used to draw and post her drawings on her Instagram page. A dreamer and ambitious, loving and beloved. Love preceded her into places, and now they bear witness to her. She was eager for new experiences and adventures, and her ambition was to become an architect—a dream she took with her. The last conversation the two friends had was just before graduating from the Access program. In it, Lujain expressed her sadness that something that had been such a big part of her life was ending, and that the feeling of emptiness was overcoming her sense of accomplishment. The occupation killed Lujain and killed the beautiful places she loved. The graduation hall at the Orthodox Institute was bombed, the school for the gifted was bombed, and Lujain was bombed along with her dreams. She was killed on November 18, 2023, with members of her family. Only her sister survived. The occupation killed them.
