Misk al-Susi

Misk al-Susi... the scent of childhood in Gaza. Misk means a good perfume; in Gaza, it means a perfume mixed with the scent of shahada [martyrdom]. Misk al-Susi, 15 years old, was very quiet, and a laugh never left her cheeks. Her dream was to memorize the Quran and become an engineer. She was very polite and loved her friends deeply. Her father used to call her "Misk of the Soul." One of her wishes before she was killed was, "I wish I could go to a very beautiful island..." On November 4th, Misk was killed in the Abu Hasira massacre, along with a number of her relatives. The scent of childhood that is Misk spreads more each day in Gaza, extending across the geography of Palestine, to draw new dreams and wishes, which include Misk's island and her ambition.
