Suleiman Majed Abu Jame'

A beautiful angel, with the sweet laugh and the beautiful face, this is my Salloumeh, my child. He was supposed to turn four next month; he was killed at the age of two years, seven months, and twenty-one days. Salloumeh was a clever, capable child; he used to help me and pass me things, asking: 'Mama, should I pour you some water?' During bombardments he would hug me and say: 'Mama, don't be afraid, I'm here beside you!' Salloumeh's father had traveled abroad before the war, and Salloumeh was killed without ever seeing him. Salloumeh was his mother's comfort and companion in everything. Half an hour before he was killed, Salloumeh said to me: 'Mama, Grandma and I will die, and you don't die.' And indeed, he and Grandma, who is my mother, were killed together, and I came out a survivor in body only from under the rubble, but my soul left with them.
