Layan was a sweet, light soul, the kind you love at first sight. She was gentle, calm, and peaceful, and did not like trouble. She had big dreams and aspired to become an English teacher, a subject she excelled at in school. Our friendship lasted for four years. When the war began, we lost contact. I held on to the hope that she was still alive, until I searched the lists of martyrs and found out she had been killed in the al-Taj massacre at the start of the war. I cried for her so much. May God have mercy on you, Layan.
