Amani Abdel Rahman Yousef al-Raqab

Amani Abdel Rahman Yousef al-Raqab

Age 8 · 20 November 2024

She had memorized two parts of the Quran, Juz' Amma and Tabarak. She dreamed of becoming a dentist, and at home they used to call her "Doctor." She loved drawing a great deal, and a smile never left her face. She was killed while on her way to buy ice cream. She was a happy child and diligent in her studies, but the war came and destroyed and scattered her dreams. "Israel" killed her grandfather, her uncle, her female cousin, and her friends. It burned down her house and destroyed the mosque and the school. Amani lived with her family in a tent, deprived of the most basic necessities of life, without electricity, water, or food. Amani suffered, but she was patient. She was deprived of schooling for a full year. This year, she had re-enrolled in her studies; she would go at 12:00 PM and return to her tent at 3:30 PM. One morning, she made herself rings, bracelets, and a necklace, and painted henna on her hands. Then she went to school and came back early. She took her allowance from her mother and went to buy cream biscuits and pasta chips. The occupation targeted her with a missile; the enemy killed her along with 19 other people. She was only carrying pens. The occupation stole her childhood and her dreams, and destroyed her entire life.
