Ahmed and Aseel Abu Asad
Age 5
The twins Ahmed and Aseel Abu Asad were 12 years old, the youngest children in their family. Two days before they were killed, Ahmed went to the barber and had his hair styled. "Even if I die," he said, "I want to look stylish and good."
Aseel was a quiet and shy girl, who cared a great deal about her appearance, yet was kind and gentle. Despite the difficult circumstances, she did not burden her father with expenses. Had she been given the chance to grow up, she wanted to study fashion design or become a fashion influencer. She saved her money, but kept her childlike nature.
Ahmed, for his part, was full of life and energy. He loved to play football and dreamed of becoming a football player. He always played after coming home from school. Their father encouraged them to study in order to achieve success in the future. But today he regrets it, saying: "I didn't know Ahmed wouldn't grow up. I should have let him play as much as he always wanted."
They were killed along with their mother in an Israeli airstrike on October 21, 2023.
