Saqr Ahmed al-Masari'i
Age 9 · Al-Shati refugee camp
This is Saqr.
He was one of the kindest and brightest children I have ever met in my mother's family. He had an incredible way of getting close to your heart, I swear. On my last visit to Gaza, during our gathering at my aunt's house, he wouldn't leave my side, and we talked endlessly. I told his mother, Duaa, "That's it, Saqr is mine now." He kept telling me, "Take a picture of us together, come on, let's take a picture together." Today, Saqr went with his father to fetch water for them to drink. He filled the water, but he never got a chance to drink it.
