Reem Ali Badwan
Age 22 · Nuseirat camp
Reem, who was called "soul of my soul," was playing with her siblings and never got to see her father again.
Just minutes before the bombing, Reem and her siblings were enjoying moments of play and fun in their home in the Nuseirat camp in the central Gaza Strip. They were waiting for their father to return from Egypt, but without any prior warning, the occupation bombed the house. Reem and her brother Tariq were killed. Their mother and their brother Ahmad survived.
The grandfather seen carrying her in the well-known footage is her maternal grandfather. He lived next door and was deeply attached to her; she was his most beloved grandchild, and he never imagined she would die in his arms.
According to the testimony of the photographer, Ashraf Abu Amra, who documented the moment, Reem was about two and a half years old.
