Mervat Muhammad al-Yaziji
Age 5 · 12 February 2024 · Rafah
She was her father's first daughter. Her only brother, two years and nine months old, was seriously injured. She was an affectionate, quiet child who excelled in her studies and would only sleep in her mother's or father's arms. The occupation has now deprived her of them; her father is in Gaza, unable to travel south. Whenever her mother did her hair and dressed her, Mervat would say, "Are we going to Papa's today? I miss him, Mama!"
The night she was killed in Rafah, she asked her maternal uncle for Indomie noodles. He told her, "Of course, sweetie, I'll get you some tomorrow." The occupation killed her before she could eat the meal she had asked for.
