Yasmine Awad

Age 15 · 17 November 2023

She was one of the best and kindest people, beloved by her friends. Yasmine was an ambitious 15-year-old who excelled in her studies, always ranking first in her class. She was very popular and had many friends who loved her dearly. Her dream was to finish memorizing the Quran before the end of 2023, and she had very little left to complete, but her dreams came to an end. The occupation killed her, along with more than 80 members of her family, when their home was bombed. One of her friends said of her: "How fortunate she is, my beloved, a martyr, God willing. All her life, she was first in school and first in her religious studies—she had memorized 27 sections [juz'] of the Quran. She was first in her morals, in her elegance and taste, in her neatness, her understanding, and her good conduct. She was first in everything. Even in her final moments, she was first. In the highest paradise [Firdaws al-A'la], God willing. She loved perfumes and cleanliness, but now her scent is of musk, needing no perfume. May God have mercy on you, my beloved, and accept you as a martyr."
